There have been talks on finding alternatives to petroleum based fules to be used in automotives. Given the growth of auto motives in the past ten or so years, and considering the fact that petroleum is a non-renewable source of fuel that is fast depreciating, the talks, concerns and ideas are Godsend. One of the major alternatives, now being considered for fuel is ethanol.

Using Ethanol as a fuel has been a long disputed topic, given the fact that energy returned on energy invested is generally not accurately stated. While some researchers are of the opinion that the EROEI of Ethanol is about 34%, there have been speculations of about 8% loss for fuel generated from grain alcohol. There have been reports that Ethanol altough introduced as a much hyped, eco-friendly fule, increases global warming, destroys forests and inflates food prices.

Now, a new report has come about fromĀ  Ed Wallace, in Business Week titled The Great Ethanol Scam, the report blames Ethanol to be a dud as a fuel, which destroys engines.
